European Mobility Week runs from 16-22 Sept every year and provides an opportunity for towns and cities to promote sustainable travel modes for a whole week. The objective is to facilitate widespread debate on the necessity for changes in urban travel patterns, and in particular the need to cut private car use.
City of Edinburgh Council is one of many throughout Europe that takes part in European Mobility Week an annual event which encourages people to walk, cycle or us public transport more.
In Edinburgh the Council has organised events such as the closure of George Street for a green travel event on Sundays.
In recent years some events have taken place during European Mobility Week including the highly successful Commuter Challenge. In addition activities have been organising, particularly aimed at schools, throughout the year.
