Walking

Walking is something most people can manage. It’s cheap, can be convenient and can be a link between other forms of transport (bus stop to office etc.) or a complete journey – walk to work, school, shops or just round the park.

In many city centre streets (such as Lothian Road) there are often more people walking than travelling in vehicles.

Short car journeys produce more pollution (per mile) than longer ones as the engine doesn’t get the chance to warm up to optimum performance. In urban areas there will also be more stop/start congestion conditions.
